POLE CLIMBING: This is a timed event. The contestant who, in the shortest time, climbs the pole, removes the ribbon and returns it to the judge will be the winner. Poles will be numbered, contestants draw for pole position.
WOOD SAWING & SPLITTING: The middle of the three logs is cut into three pieces of equal length; each piece is chopped (cleanly) into four pieces. The first to have 11 pieces piled neatly, and one delivered to the judge is the winner. This is a timed event. LOG THROWING: The large end of the log is the throwing end (top). The measurement for this contest will be from the centre of the starting line (painted orange) to the resting place of the unpainted end (the log has to flip), no matter how it gets there - rolls count. Each contestant gets one throw. CANOE PACKING: This is a timed event. The winner will be
the one with the least elapsed time going from the starting
line to the turn around (75 ft.) and back to the starting line. The
contestant will be given the opportunity to hoist the canoe
before he starts his race. The painted orange to face the
front and also 2 inches back of the starting line. RAT SKINNING: This is a judged event, quality not speed, although as a general guideline, to get all events completed on time, the chairperson can call the event after 25 minutes. TRAP SETTING: The winner of this event will be the person who has set 6 or 8 traps provided in the shortest time. All contestants will be given the opportunity to set all traps once before the contest begins. Live sets only. Also a timed event. PACK RACE: Each contestant will carry a 100 lb bag of grain. First one over the finish line wins. Distance (100 ft) is marked off at event place. A timed event. FLOUR PACKING: NOTE-WEIGHT TO ENTER MUST BE 700 LBS & OVER. The winner of this event will be the contestant that carries the most flour. Each contestant will be allowed two carries. The distance carried is 18-20 feet. If the first carry is dropped, the contestant is eliminated and does not get a second carry. Contestants are to help each other with the event. TEA BOILING: Each contestant will be provided with matches and a pail full of snow (filled by officials). No paper will be allowed. At the start of the whistle, the contestant will run and pick up their wood and return to their pit or as otherwise directed. Contestant can not use snowbank, or fence to support the tea boiling stick. The first one that brings their pail to a rolling boil is the winner. BANNOCK BAKING: This is a judged event with a maximum of 45 minutes allowed. The lath will be numbered, as the judges are not allowed to watch this event (3 judges). The contestants are provided with lath, cardboard, flour, salt, baking powder, lard and warm water. No other supplies can be used, no foil etc. Contestant using anything else will be disqualified. Timing starts when everyone has their products and contestants cannot start until that time. MARATHON SNOWSHOE RACE: Each contestant will provide his own snowshoes. The snowshoes must be a minimum of 50 inches when the width and length are added together. Contestants are to look after their own snowshoe tie-downs if needed. The event starts at 2:00 p.m. SHARP. Contestants are to be at the Snowshoe Race Area (same place as the dog races begin) by 1:30 p.m. ICE FISHING: The contestants will have to open their own holes. Contestants provide their own hook, line and bait. The winner will be the one that catches the most fish in one hour. In the event of a three way tie, 1st will be awarded to the contestant who catches the first fish and same for second and third place, etc. Species does not matter. MOOSE CALLING: Each contestant draw for number to determine order, and will make three calls: calf, cow and bull. Each contestant will draw a number for the order of calling and not be known to the judges, as the judges will not be able to see the contestants. Contestants will not be allowed to speak over the microphone. Anyone speaking over the microphone or giving their identity away in any way will be disqualified. GOOSE CALLING: Each contestant will be numbered and will make three calls: feeding, alert and spring arrival. Each contestant will draw for the order of calling and not be known to the judges, as the judges will not be able to see the contestants. Contestants will not be able to speak over the microphone. Anyone speaking over the microphone or giving their identity away in any way will be disqualified. LEG WRESTLING: Numbers are drawn by contestants in order of the contest placings for which spot he will leg wrestle. If there are an odd number of contestants, a coin will be tossed prior to picking the draw sheet. If the low or high number gets the bye, the contestant picks this. The King Trapper Chairperson makes up draw sheet. Straight elimination. This event will be at the Hi-Lites only. WILD FUR COMPETITION: King Trapper contestants only compete against other King Trapper contestants. There is prize money for this event as well as points. King Trapper contestants are only allowed to enter 6 furs (2 short hair, 2 long hair and 2 beaver). ICE CHOP: The area will be marked out and the contestants will draw for hole position. They must chop/chisel a hole large enough to fit a 9" shovel. This is a timed event, and the contestant will use this hole for the ice fishing contest. AXE THROWING: Contestants will throw an axe at a target 18-20 ft. away. The target is marked 4,3,2,1. They get one practice throw, and then their points are counted on the next three throws. Most points wins. This is an elimination event. BUCKSKIN PARADE: This is an event where each buckskin outfit will be judged as to its overall quality, general appearance, intricacy of beadwork, etc. All contestants will be asked to form a single line and parade in front of the crowd, off the stage. PORTAGE: Contestants will pack a specified amount of packages from one place to another in the least amount of time. Logs will be set up to act as if crossing a creek. Only 1 article to be packed at a time, and must be piled neatly on the other side. If the contestant falls off a log, a 5 second penalty will be added to the time each time they fall. This is a timed event. SLEIGH PULL: This will be a timed event. In this event the contestant must pull a sleigh with a set amount of weight for a pre-determined distance of 100 ft. 2007 Results
